Day +31: A Lovely Day At Home

We had a lovely day at home.

That was it. Just a day at home for Mummy and Baby. Hanging, chilling out, playing.

With Jonathan back at work, today was the first full day I have had with Sean at home. We had no plans, nowhere we needed to be, just a whole day of being with each other, and a big timetable of feeding and drugs administration to fulfil.

It was nice just to hang out with Sean. Sure, we had plenty of that in hospital, and since we got home, we have had plenty of hanging with each other time. But a whole day of it, when Sean was being so cute and clever, that was a first in a long time.

Sean's appetite appeared to be back to a certain extent, so I took advantage of this and fed him plenty of food. He was really so good with taking medications now - if he saw a syringe heading towards him, he would stop, open his mouth, wait for the syringe to go into his mouth, and swallow the contents of the syringe. Poor baby - this really was something he didn't need to be good at.

We had to go to the Post Office late in the afternoon, and I especially waited until a time when I thought the Post Office would be less likely to be crowded before setting out with Sean. We had ordered a vacuum cleaner online, and the delivery man came yesterday while we were at the hospital. He left the "failure to deliver" card on our door, so we had to go and pick up our parcel from the Post Office.

We found a car park right out the front, and I popped a mask on Sean before we went into the Post Office. The lady who served us was less than tactful about Sean's mask, recoiling behind the counter and muttering something that sounded like "Oh, you're sick, are you?", so I ignored her and continued with my transaction. My refusal to acknowledge her faux pas made the postmistress even more flustered, and she stumbled about to find our parcel. She then tried to overcompensate her foot in mouth moment by offering to find someone to carry our parcel to the car, in a very loud voice, shouting "Who has a moment to help the lady with the sick baby?" Fortunately, the parcel, while bulky, was not heavy, so I hoisted Sean back onto my hip and dragged the box out to the car.

Even as I type this, I can only shake my head at the postmistress's reaction to a mask on a toddler's face. Different strokes for different folks, and I guess she was just trying to show her concern, in her own very special way.

Jonathan came home a bit earlier than last night, and we had a lovely dinner before giving the little man his bath and putting him to bed.

We are expecting a visitor tomorrow - my long time friend Troy, who was visiting from the Gold Coast. It will be good to see Troy - it had been years since we last saw each other face to face. We kept in touch by text messages and emails, and sometimes on Facebook, so I am looking forward to giving Troy a big old hug tomorrow.

  1. You should draw big goofy smiley faces on his mask or something and really give them something to stare at!
