15 days!I'm happy to report that last night, Jonathan won every "Of The Year" category with his wedding present to me - Boyfriend of the Year, Fiancé of the Year, Husband of the Year, Father of the Year, and Man of the Year.
Wicked was one of the most fantastic musicals I've been to in a long time. And the Capitol Theatre was a perfect venue - this old dame provided a spectacular space for the amazing sets and the very creative costumes.
When Jonathan got the tickets a month ago, he chose the "best available seats" option and hoped for the best. When the tickets arrived, we saw that we were in Row BB, and both of us thought we would be way up the back of the theatre.
Imagine our delight when we were told to head towards the stage, and look for the second row from the stage! Not only were we two rows back from the stage, we were also smack bang in the middle of the row, dead centre of the stage.
We were so close to the stage, we were able to see the entire performance up close and personal. We were able to see all of the performers' facial expressions, all the elaborate costume designs, even the fabulously creative make up. Seriously, these were the best seats we've ever had in all the shows we've ever been to.
The show itself was great, although vastly different from the book. The book is quite dark, with no happy ending, but the show is aimed more for the fans of The Wizard of Oz. The performances were good too:
- Jemma Rix was a stunning Elphaba, with an incredible voice and a solid performance.
- Lucy Durack did a fabulous job as the vain but loyal friend Galinda/Glinda - such fantastic comedic timing and well delivered lines - and she had some of the best lines.
- James Smith was simply awesome as Boq. What a voice!
- The rest of the principal cast were great too. Bert Newton's Wizard was fun. Elisa Colla's Nessarose deserved more stage time. Maggie Fitzpatrick's Madam Morrible and Rodney Dobson's Professor Dillamond were substantial. The weakest link was Tim Campbell - his take on Fiyero was not convincing, and his was quite easily the weakest of all the performances.
- The flying monkeys were fantastic.
Best. Wedding Present. EVER.
How the hell am I going to top that?
Today, I had my make up trial with Judit. And I was very very pleased with the results. Dad, Mum and Jonathan all saw the results, and they were all pretty pleased as well.
15 days to go!
