Being Momma G: Day 33

Happy 38th Wedding Anniversary to Jonathan's parents Malcolm and Robin! Wishing you joy and happiness for the next 38 years!

Today is also Chinese New Year's Eve - the last day of the Year of the Tiger. Both Jonathan and Sean are "tigers", and it will be another 12 years before it is "their" year again.

Jonathan worked from home today, as a trial of the new work arrangements for his team. The arrangements are such that Jonathan (or the person doing the whole day of product support) would start at 7am and work till 9am, then be "off work" from 9am to 5pm, and be back "on" again from 5pm to 11pm. The previous arrangements saw the person on product support working either the morning shift or the afternoon shift, which meant if Jonathan was working the morning shift, he would have to get up at 5.15am to be in the office by 7am, and finish up the day at 3pm. The afternoon shift would see Jonathan head into the office for an 11am start, finish at the office at 5pm, and start again the minute he came home to finish the day at 9pm.

I like the new arrangements better, as does Jonathan.

With our air conditioning broken, Jonathan called a repair guy yesterday to come to the house today to fix the unit. The repair man was due to arrive around 7am, and after a slightly unsettled night from Master Sean (understandably so considering the sweltering heat), Jonathan left us to sleep. Sean woke at 1.15am and 4.30am for his feeds, and while I heard movements in the house, I didn't wake up until around 8am, half an hour before Sean woke for his next feed.

The air conditioner needed a new capacitor, and the repair man had to leave our house to get the new part before continuing with the repair. While he was gone, I finished feeding Sean and took him outside to meet Warren our gardener and to say hi to our elderly neighbour Rita, who was cutting back the bushes at the front of our house - bless! Our neighbour Jeanette was passing by, so she came up and cooed over Sean as well.

Before too long, the air conditioner repair man returned with his supervisor to replace the capacitor, and finished the rest of the repairs quite quickly. Sweet sweet cool air started flowing through the house once again - yay!

We enjoyed the cool air until after Sean's next feed before we headed out to the shops to run errands. We needed to get some passport photos of me and Sean taken for our passport applications, and we wanted to get some more coffee pods for our Nespresso coffee machine. There were a few other things I wanted to do, like go to Bunnings and buying a few gardening tools (for I did feel a bit guilty seeing our neighbour in her mid-80s working had to cut back our bushes), go to the bank to deposit some foreign cheques, get to K-Mart to get a few more maternity bras and most importantly, have lunch. By the time we got to Chatswood, it was lunch time, so we sat down to some tucker before continuing with the errands. Sean was asleep in the pram, so we took advantage of this time and enjoyed our lunch.

Sean woke just as we were finishing lunch, so we raced to the photo shop to get our passport photos taken. Unfortunately, we weren't quick enough, and the shop was stiflingly hot, which made all of us very uncomfortable and Sean became quite agitated. After trying our best to get the shop assistant to take a photo of Sean, who cried and screamed and squirmed, we ended up just getting my photo taken. We had so many other things we needed to do as well, and fortunately, the little man slept on and off until we were more or less finished with our errands.

I fed Sean the minute we came home, as he had been such an awesome trooper while we were out. After such a long outing, Sean dropped into a deep sleep after the feed, but not before posing for his passport photos. We managed to get quite a few shots of Sean with his eyes opened and his mouth closed, and hoped one of these will be good enough for the passport interview. We were due to have dinner with my folks for Chinese New Year's Eve, so we hoped the little man would be settled and sleeping throughout dinner.

Just after 6pm, we left our house to head to North Sydney, and Sean was still asleep. We arrived to a full house - Dad and Mum were cooking in the kitchen, and Grace and Vinay and their kids were in the living room. Dinner was sumptuous as always, and both Jonathan and I were able to enjoy our meals without any interruptions, for Sean slept the whole way through dinner!

As Jonathan was suppose to be working, we left as soon as we were able to, so Jonathan could come home and continue working. Sean woke about 10 minutes after we walked through the front door, so I fed him and put him to bed.

Speaking of which, we're both pretty zonked, so we're going to head off to bed too. Good night!
