The little man who was learning to sleep through large chunks of the night finally returned to us last night. After the disgusting weather we've had, as well as the sudden cool change, Sean has been extremely unsettled to say the least. Last night, the little man slept 6.5 hours - from 11pm to 4.30am - before waking and wanting a feed. Both Jonathan and I actually felt rested when Sean woke at 4.30am crying for milk. Sean continued his good behaviour by going back to sleep after the feed, allowing us a little bit more sleep until 6.45am.
Sean was great at settling after the feed, so I was able to go about and get some stuff done. I had breakfast, and made the bed, and got a few other things sorted before Sean woke up for a feed at 10.55am.
Unfortunately, for the rest of the afternoon, Sean would only settle for short bursts at a time. It was so very very frustrating, for just when I thought I'd settled Sean and go and start a task, Sean would let me know that he needed more cuddles. This happened after the 2.30pm feed, and continued on after the 5pm feed. By the time Jonathan came home from work, I was exhausted from going back and forth the little guy all afternoon.
We fed Sean again at 7.20pm, and afterwards, Jonathan popped him in the Minimonkey sling and walked around the house with him. Sean seemed to like being in the sling and settled enough for us to have dinner. Earlier in the day, during one of Sean's short sleeping stints, I made a yummy marinade for our pork medallions, which I grilled in the oven now that Sean was happy in the sling and being carried by Daddy. The pork was cooked to perfection, if I must say so myself, and it was perfectly matched by the brown rice and medley of veggies. The marinade called for hot chilli sauce, which gave the pork a nice zing.
While my taste buds loved the zing, my guts had other ideas, and when Sean woke at 11pm for a feed, I was busy dashing to the bathroom. In order to avoid making Sean sick as well, we decided to feed Sean a bottle of formula while I "pumped and dumped" the breast milk. I hope Sean sleeps tonight like he did last night - I certainly could do with another 6 straight hours of sleep.
