Day +39: Preparing for Visitors

Another day, another outing. And it was a lot easier when we were all out together.

With Chuck and Kyung visiting tomorrow, we needed to head out to the shops to do the grocery shopping as well as grabbing some special items to share with our visitors.

I spent the morning tidying things around the house, while Jonathan kept Sean entertained and kept away from me. While Sean had his morning nap, Jonathan and I sat down to enjoy some peace and quiet. We planned what we needed to do when we hit the shops, where we needed to go and what we needed to buy, and after Sean woke and had his lunch, we went to Top Ryde to grab the things we needed.

With Sean fed and watered, we hit Big W again. Jonathan wanted to get a few winter long sleeve shirts, and he also wanted some adult sized moccasins after seeing Sean's new moccasins. At the entrance to Big W, there were racks of clothing on sale for Mother's Day, and we found some moccasins for me. We went to the Menswear department and found some shirts for Jonathan, and also found a pair of moccasins for him. We had a wander through the Toys department, before passing through the Cookware department on our way to the check outs.

I spotted something out of the corner of my eye, and made Jonathan walk back with me to get a closer look. As soon as I had a chance to properly examine the box, I knew I had to have it - my very own Bake Pops pan!!! I was so excited to see the pan, and as an avid follower of Bakerella, the woman who made cake pops famous, I just had to have the pan to make my very own cake pops.

We ended up with more things at the check out than we anticipated, but it was a good haul. We went down to Woolworths next to get our groceries, and came away from there with a full trolley. Dan Murphy's was our next stop, where we picked up a few bottles of wine and ciders. As we were lining up to pay for our bottles, we came across a ginger beer tasting. We both love ginger beer, and the lad doing the tasting was more than happy to let us try a few. After sampling about 6 different ginger beers, we picked up a couple of bottles to add to our collection.

Last stop was the Asian supermarket, where I picked up a few items before heading home. Sean was wonderful through the whole trip, but he was glad to be home and be able to run around.

I am planning on making pulled pork for lunch tomorrow, as well as some home baked sourdough and a cake or something sweet. I found the recipe for the pulled pork in the 4 Ingredients cookbook I bought yesterday - One Pot One Bowl, and after seeing many episodes of Man V Food and hearing the host Adam Richman bang on and on about how good pulled pork was, Jonathan really wanted me to try and make pulled pork at home. The recipe was easy - slow cook a boneless pork roast in the slow cooker with some apple cider vinegar for 8 to 10 hours, take the pork out of the cooker and discard the cooking liquid, shred (or pull) the pork with forks, put the pork back into the cooker, add some smokey BBQ sauce, and wait until the meat was heated through. It seemed to easy to NOT try, so, tonight, before we go to bed, I am going to put the pork in the slow cooker and let it cook overnight.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Chuck and Kyung tomorrow - it's been far too long since we saw them last, and they miss their Godson too. We want to hear all about what they've been up to, and hopefully, we will be celebrating Chuck's new job!
