The new couches arrived today! The new couches arrived today!!! Can I get a woop woop?!I get so excited about the smallest things these day.
The phone rang early this morning to let me know the couches would be arriving between 12 noon and 2pm. I was so excited - I was actually beyond excited. After (forcefully) feeding Sean is breakfast, I left him in the high chair while I moved things around in the lounge room, in eager anticipation of the impending arrival of the new couches. And it was then I had a small pang of panic - would the new couches fit in the space we have?!
You might think me crazy, but we had never fully measured out the size of the couches to see if they would both fit in the lounge room. Yep, that's right, folks, we bought the couches without fully knowing whether we had enough space to house both of them. The day we went looking for a new couch, we didn't think we would come home with a receipt for 2 new deep couches. And once we were home, it was too late to cancel the order, so we didn't bother to do any further measurements.
The new couches were considerably deeper than the old ones, and the main couch was only slightly shorter in length than the old main couch. After clearing the living room floor, I was a little bit nervous that they were going to be a tight squeeze.
As we had promised the fold up futon sofa to Penny, she called to ask if she and her father could drop by to see how big the sofa was. Mr W lives in Brisbane, and was down for the week visiting Penny and helping to fix a few things around her new apartment, so I welcomed the chance to see Mr W again. They came by just after Sean fell asleep, which was perfect timing.
Mr W met Sean when Sean was 8 or 9 months old, when he and Mrs W were in Sydney for Penny's graduation in Masters in Museum Studies late last year. Mr W had an awesome time playing with Sean, and was secretly hoping to have a little play with Sean today. He was a tad disappointed when he arrived to a sleeping baby, but was happy to settle for a cuppa and a biccie and a yarn instead.
Mr W and Penny had a quick look at the fold up futon sofa, and I briefly showed them how to fold it down and set it up. Penny had initially thought the bed part of the sofa was housed within the sofa, and didn't realise it was a fold up / fold down mechanism. The way Penny thought the sofa was made would have added a lot of weight to the sofa, but as it was, Penny and Mr W thought they could definitely manage to get it into the trailer by themselves, and with a bit of help from Penny's flatmate Cody, they would be able to it up to the apartment via those steep steep stairs.
Over a cup of tea and a few shortbread biscuits, we had a good chat about a few things. Of course, weighing on our minds the most was the subject of Lucas, and how Penny and I could best help our friends. Mr W was going to be in town until early next week, so he was going to come to the funeral as well. All of us shook our heads at the sadness and senselessness of the whole tragedy.
At 1pm, the couches arrived.
Two big burly blokes unloaded the two hefty couches, and brought them in one by one. There was a real danger of things not fitting properly, but the fellas put the couches in the positions where I wanted them to go, and after signing the delivery note, they were on their way again.
Like a little kid, I immediately jumped on to one of the couches. Oh, my, I'd forgotten how comfortable it was. I could have stayed there all afternoon and slept and did nothing. But, I had guests and a baby who was due to wake up soon, so I reluctantly got out of the couch and shifted the couches to where I wanted them to be. Mr W and Penny giggled at my excitement, and soon after the couches were delivered, they continued their afternoon of activities, and left our house to head to Lissy and Dave. Penny and Mr W promised to return on the weekend to collect the sofa.
When Sean woke up, he was a bit surprised by the new couches, but he was soon climbing up and down on the couches and smearing his snotty nose on the arms to mark his territory.
I sent a photo to Jonathan to show him the couches had arrived, and he couldn't wait to get home to sink into the comfy couches with us.
The colour was perfect, as it matched our rug really well. You could barely see Sean's drool or snot on the new fabric! I was really pleased with the couches and how well they fitted in to the scheme of things. Yes, they were a bit bigger than I remembered, and yes, they were a bit on the bulky side, but that was the price we paid for having large deep comfy couches. They took up just as much room, if not slightly more, than the old couch and the fold up futon sofa did, but I was really pleased with our purchase. And once the futon sofa was taken away by Penny and Mr W, our lounge room would be a lot more spacious - 3 couches were just too many for our living space!
Ahhh... so comfortable. I love my new couches!!!
