Day +72: 2 Hours Late!

For much of today, we were 2 hours late. The day is now almost over, and we have only just caught up.

The pleasant surprise this morning was Sean sleeping in until 9.30am. I was enjoying my sleep so much, I had no idea it was so late by the time Sean woke and sang to himself, patiently waiting for me to go to him.

Jonathan had kindly unhooked the milk pump before he left for work, and although Sean looked like he would wake at the time, he closed his eyes and went back to sleep. I vaguely recalled Jonathan leaving for work, and when I heard Sean's singing, I knew it was later than usual, but did not realise it was so late in the morning.

Waking up at 9.30am had its advantages - I felt well rested, my body was able to function and move almost immediately (my body was now taking up to 5 minutes to "warm up" every morning before it would respond to my brain's commands to move my legs and hoist myself out of bed), and the house was a little bit warmer at that time.

However, waking up at 9.30am also had its pitfalls - we were now 2 hours behind schedule, and since it was taking so long to feed Sean these days, this meant breakfast lasted until nearly 11am, which should have been almost the start of nap time. The mandatory breakfast bolus had to be given while Sean was already lying down in the cot, and in an effort to try and make up the time, I made Sean go down for a nap just after 11.30am.

Amazingly, Sean slept - funny how the body can be trained to do certain things at certain times of the day. I did not think Sean would have a nap only 2 hours after waking up, but there he was, receiving his bolus of milk while lying in his cot, all snug in his sleeping bag and wrapped with a soft bunny rug, and drifting off to sleep. I left my sleeping baby in his room just before midday, and wondered how long Sean would sleep for today.

Surprise, surprise, Sean stayed asleep for nearly 2 hours. He must have really needed it!

By the time we finished lunch and the lunch bolus of milk, it was 3.30pm. I still wanted to get some food over to Lissy and Dave, so I packed Sean and everything else into the car, and set off for Lissy and Dave's house in Seven Hills. As we had made plans with my parents to have dinner with them, we needed to make sure we had everything with us, as we would go directly to their house after my food delivery.

Dave had been feeling unwell, and he and Lissy were out when we arrived with the food. I dropped the bag at the front door and we raced off to my parents' place in Waverton. Thinking the M2 would be the quickest way to get there, we joined the traffic, which came to a grinding halt at approximately the half way point. A 5-car pile up at Carlingford stopped traffic on both sides of the road, which was causing a hold up stretching kilometres. We were stuck for about 20 minutes, not moving, but hoping we would soon be moving.

I called my parents to let them know we were running late, and by the time we finally arrived, it was nearly 6pm, when I had wanted to be there around 4.30pm so Sean could have a little play with his grandparents before dinner. Jonathan arrived shortly after we did, and dinner was served pretty much straight away.

It's now after 9.30pm. Jonathan is sitting with Sean and waiting for Sean to fall asleep. I really hope Sean falls asleep soon, as I hope we have more or less caught up the time for the day. I don't want to think of the alternative, as Sean really needs to fall asleep now, and not stay awake for the next couple of hours!
