Day +88: A Whole Day of Nothing

Hospitals are funny places. You lose track of time when you are in hospital. Even more so when you are stuck in an isolation room with no windows to the outside world.

Absolutely nothing happened today. Well, that's not exactly true. Something did happen today. Something good. Tonight, we found the most amazingly glorious Thai place in Randwick. Blue Monkey Thai at The Spot made the most awesome green curry chicken, ever! Our dinner tonight was sensational. Even Jonathan, who was not a huge fan of green curry, said it was amazing! It was so so so good. We now had a new favourite place to eat in Randwick.

Sean's temperature was stable and well below 38°C all day long, which was great news. The blood tests showed that Sean may be in need of a blood transfusion, but the doctors would wait for the results from tomorrow's tests before proceeding with a transfusion if required. Sean's magnesium levels were definitely on the low side, so the doctors gave him an injection to boost his levels. In light of the latest information, we were told that we would not be going home until 8.45pm tomorrow at the absolute earliest.

Fingers crossed we do get to go home tomorrow night. I was now completely sick of listening to Kid Vampire screaming, and was THIS close to tracking down his mother and giving her a piece of my mind.

Kid Vampire cried all day. His mother was nowhere to be seen. The poor nurses were dealing with their workload as well as the increasing number of complaints about Kid Vampire's screaming. I for one was making a large number of complaints. It was so unfair for the rest of the ward to have to deal with the racket this kid was causing, and extremely unfair for his mother to leave a screaming child loudly pining for her on his own all day long. The mother probably didn't care about making everyone else suffer through Kid Vampire's cries and screams. It was the only explanation I could come up with for her lengthy absence.

For the first time in months, Sean had a nap late in the afternoon. He obviously needed the nap, so we did our best to accommodate him. We were aware that he may struggle to fall asleep tonight, and lo and behold, Sean really struggled to fall asleep. I made Jonathan go home before Sean fell asleep, as we weren't sure when Sean would drift off.

Sean has now been asleep for a little while, but I am wide awake, as is Kid Vampire, who is once again exercising his vocal chords. If Kid Vampire is still awake in an hour, I will be going into his room and making him stop.

I'm done. I'm so over it. I know he's a kid but I'm so over the screaming. If he doesn't stop on his own, I'm going to make him stop.
